HAMBURG, Germany, Oct. 31 -- Baasel Lasertech, a subsidiary of Rofin-Sinar Technologies Inc., has acquired its 100th major contract for laser-based perforation/engraving systems. The most recent order, worth more than DM 3.5 million, was for laser systems used to manufacture cigarette filter paper. The order came from a company in the paper processing industry and the first shipment will be deployed by the end of this year. The second unit will be installed early next year. Baasel Lasertech's new laser-based perforating systems can produce a record number of holes with diameters of less than 100 µm, the company said. In making this technology, the company used RF-excited CO2 lasers, which are designed for perforating/engraving applications and have rapid programmable modes and high power stability.
