PLYMOUTH, Mich. and HAMBURG, Germany, April 2, 2007 -- Rofin-Sinar Technologies Inc., a maker of industrial lasers, announced today it has acquired 100 percent of the common stock of Corelase Oy, based in Tampere, Finland, in a cash transaction. Further terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 2003, Corelase makes fiber-coupled diode laser systems, continuous-wave and ultrashort pulse mode-locked fiber laser systems and components such as diode lasers for material-processing applications. Corelase has expanded its presence in several Asian and European countries through exclusive agreements with distributors. Corelase Oy, which has maintained a US partnership since 2006, will continue to operate as stand-alone company and to provide products to other laser companies, Rofin-Sinar said in a statement.

"This is an important acquisition for Rofin-Sinar, as we continue to broaden and deepen our technological portfolio," said Gunther Braun, CEO and [resident of RSTI. "We have been evaluating this technology for a long time and are confident that the talents and skills of Corelase will contribute to the future success of our group, and will further strengthen our position in the market for laser material processing."

Rofin-Sinar, based in Plymouth, Mich., and Hamburg, Germany, has production facilities in those locations and in the UK, Sweden, Singapore and Japan. It acquired 80 percent of Germany-based semiconductor maker m2k-laser in March. (See also: "Rofin-Sinar Laser Buys 80% of m2k-laser GmbH")
