The silicon photonics device market is set to grow from $25 million in 2013 to more than $700 million in 2024, representing a 38 percent composite annual growth rate, according to research firm Yole Developpement. The market includes high-performance computing, optical data centers, telecommunications, sensors, medical applications and consumer products. Yole predicts in a new report that emerging optical data centers from large Internet companies like Google and Facebook will drive market growth beginning around 2018. Applications outside data and telecommunications will only have a small portion of market value, Yole estimates, because they are far from market maturity.
