Yxlon International has partnered with the California Academy of Sciences to lend the institution a computed tomography (CT) system. CT images of a Nebria eschscholtzi, a beetle native to California and the American west. Researchers will use images like these to study different aspects of how the insect’s organs function. The YXLON FF20 CT system will be in use at the institute until January 31, 2018, providing insight into the organisms of biological specimens. The nondestructive nature of CT imaging technology allows for a 3D look into a myriad of industrial, biological, and historical samples and artifacts. The FF20 CT is a compact industrial CT system that is helping scientists uncover critical information about how the some 46 million specimens housed at the institute function and interrelate in nature.The academy has already used the FF20 CT to produce images of a variety of biological specimens.
