BERLIN — The independent research organization TNO, the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), and a consortium of European partners will cooperate in the LaiQa-project (Leap in Advancing of Critical Quantum Key Distribution-Space Components). The goal is to provide quantum internet from space, which has been slowed due to signal losses in fiber over distance. AURORA, Colo. — Northrop Grumman Corp. demonstrated its deep-sensing and targeting (DSaT) platform at the Experimental Demonstration Gateway Event hosted by the U.S. Army. DSaT is a multidomain deep-sensing architecture integrated into a civilian aircraft, providing intelligence collection that reaches beyond the visual line of sight of local sensors. ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The U.S. Department of Energy supplied researchers at the University of Rochester and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. ~$3 million to explore how machine learning and data science can help predict, design, and improve laser-fusion implosions for inertial fusion energy. The team will use the university’s OMEGA laser facility’s experimental database as training data as well as the simulation databases from its Laboratory for Laser Energetics radiation hydrodynamic codes.
