Altair Nanotechnologies Inc., a Reno, NV.-based provider of advanced nanomaterials for use in energy, life sciences and industrial applications, announced today that its board of directors has named interim President Terry Copeland, PhD, as its president and CEO. Copeland had filled the top post since March; he joined Altair in November 2007 as vice president, operations, for its Power and Energy Group. Prior to joining Altair, Copeland founded the consulting firm T.M. Copeland Assoc. Before that, he served as vice president of product development and research and development for Millennium Cell Inc., an alternative energy company. He spent years with Duracell and began his career with DuPont in research and development, and later held positions in international marketing and manufacturing. Copeland earned a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware and a PhD in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Altair also announced today that C. Robert Pedraza was appointed vice president, corporate strategy.
