SINGAPORE, Sept. 7 -- Lucent Technologies has won nine Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) tenders valued at over $40 million (US) from Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's state-owned telecommunications service provider. The tenders are for the building of three connected optical networks in Taiwan's northern, central and southern regions. Under these tenders, Lucent will supply a variety of SDH equipment ranging in capacity from 155 Mb/s to 2.5 Gb/s. The SDH systems are self-healing rings that will be interconnected and managed by Lucent's WaveStar Digital Access Cross-connect System. In addition, Lucent will supply a network management system for Chunghwa Telecom's new island-wide optical transmission networks. These networks are scheduled to be deployed by June 2001, and will connect Chunghwa Telecom's central offices and operation centers throughout Taiwan.
