Waltham, Mass.-based Summit Technology Inc. will expand clinical trials of its excimer laser system to treat farsightedness, thanks to approval from the US Food and Drug Administration. The trials will test the company's SVS Apex Plus excimer laser system with an erodible mask for correcting hyperopia of +1.0 to +4.0 D with ¾1.0 D of astigmatism. The company will use the test data to support its premarket approval application for hyperopia treatment, which it plans to submit to the FDA late this year.
