Optics manufacturer Rochester Precision Optics (RPO) has acquired ASE Optics to expand its design and research services, the company announced recently. The purchase price was not disclosed. ASE, which is also based in Rochester, was formed in 1994 and has provided optical engineering services and research to clients ranging from government agencies to Fortune 500 companies. ASE Optics will become a wholly owned subsidiary of RPO, which was formed in 2005 when it acquired the assets of Kodak Optical Imaging Systems. The acquisition enhances RPO's ability to design and fabricate very complex optical systems, while also allowing ASE to not only design but build prototypes and full production systems for its customers, RPO officials said.
