Retina Image Takes First Prize in NIH’s Beauty of Science Competition

A confocal microscope image of a mouse retina shining with fluorescent molecules has been awarded first prize in the National Institutes of Health's 2016 Combined Federal Campaign "Beauty of Science," an arts competition to inspire awareness and support of federal scientific efforts. The evocative image was featured in a study published last year by UC San Diego School of Medicine and Shiley Eye Institute researchers, investigating potential restorative therapies for glaucoma.
