AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, Sept. 17 -- PanAmSat Corp. said that it has added trans-Atlantic fiber capacity to its global satellite-based communications network. The new fiber connectivity will support fully integrated, hybrid video, data and Internet services between the United States, Europe and Asia. As a result, the terrestrial link, combined with PanAmSat's satellite network, will enable the company to offer customers an added transmission choice, increased service options and the ability to transmit between New York and Tokyo via a single satellite hop in London. "PanAmSat builds communications networks, and while satellites are our traditional medium, we will continue to pursue opportunities and strategies that enable us to offer the most versatile and value-added services to meet our customers' evolving and diverse needs," said Tom Eaton, PanAmSat's executive vice president, global sales.
