If there was a theme to this year's Optical Fiber Conference (OFC), held in conjunction with the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) from March 6 to 11 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, it would be the widespread implementation of fiber to the X (FTTX). Attendance at OFC during the past several years shows the effect of the telecom "bubble" from 2000 to 2002. Although the conference was combined with NFOEC for the first time this year, there were fewer attendees than at OFC for the past two years. FTTX describes the direct delivery of telecommunications...Read full article

    optical fiber
Optical fiber is a thin, flexible, transparent strand or filament made of glass or plastic used for transmitting light signals over long distances with minimal loss of signal quality. It serves as a medium for conveying information in the form of light pulses, typically in the realm of telecommunications, networking, and data transmission. The core of an optical fiber is the central region through which light travels. It is surrounded by a cladding layer that has a lower refractive index than...
