Microlens Avoids Cross-Phase Modulation, Allows Live-cell Imaging

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) researchers developed an ultrathin stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) lens that will simplify and improve the quality of molecular-level microscopic analysis by alleviating a prevalent drawback of SRS microscopy. The optical device, which resembles a miniaturized lighthouse lens, combats the likelihood that intense interactions between laser pulses and samples under observation will generate cross-phase modulation — a background signal that prevents the detection system’s ability to image without interference. Whereas...Read full article

    lens
A lens is a transparent optical device that focuses or diverges light, allowing it to pass through and form an image. Lenses are commonly used in optical systems, such as cameras, telescopes, microscopes, eyeglasses, and other vision-correcting devices. They are typically made of glass or other transparent materials with specific optical properties. There are two primary types of lenses: Convex lens (converging lens): This type of lens is thicker at the center than at the edges....
    3d printing
3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), is a manufacturing process that builds three-dimensional objects layer by layer from a digital model. This technology allows the creation of complex and customized structures that would be challenging or impossible with traditional manufacturing methods. The process typically involves the following key steps: Digital design: A three-dimensional digital model of the object is created using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This...
