ALLENTOWN, Pa., April 10 – Texas-Agere Systems announced that Metro-Optix has selected a suite of Agere's networking integrated circuits (IC), systems-on-chip (SoC) and optoelectronic components for use in Metro-Optix's CityStream platform, a "protocol-agile" bandwidth management product that will help speed the transition of traditional circuit-based networks to next-generation, high-performance cell- and packet-based services over optical networks. Metro-Optix currently deploys a broad range of Agere's network SoC and optoelectronic components in CityStream, targeted to service providers including Internet service providers as well as long-distance, regional and local telecommunications carriers "Metro-Optix and Agere shared a common vision from the start to simplify and integrate optical networks while packing in more speed, functionality and performance," said Ed Roberts, vice president of Agere's Networks and Communications business unit. "With expertise in integrating both optoelectronic and silicon solutions, we're able to help Metro-Optix and their customers reduce the time and expense of developing new communications equipment. CityStream is a showcase for Agere's high-speed, integrated opto/IC end-to-end networking solutions," Roberts said.
