Meadowlark Optics Inc. has acquired the spatial light modulator (SLM) product line from Cambridge Research & Instrumentation Inc. of Woburn, Mass. The 1 × 128 and 1 × 640-pixel liquid crystal SLMs have been added to Meadowlark’s existing transmissive and reflective SLM product lines. Playing an expanding role in research applications, SLMs are electrically programmable devices that modulate light in a fixed spatial (pixel) pattern. They enable control of the amplitude and phase of light – often ultrafast laser pulses – on a pixel-by-pixel basis across a defined spectrum.
