Kopin Corp. of Taunton, Mass., under a contract from Raytheon Co. of Lexington, Mass., will supply its CyberDisplay 640M microdisplay systems for military applications. Kopin's active-matrix liquid crystal display met Raytheon's reliability, image quality, weight and power requirements for operation as the IR viewing device on a thermal sight for US Army- and Marine-issued M-4 and M-16 rifles. The technology will enable soldiers to see in total darkness, inclement weather, and battlefield smoke and dust.Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesArmy Taps Lockheed Martin for High-Energy Laser PrototypeLockheed Martin-owned company Lockheed Martin Aculight Corp. has secured a $220.8 million contract from the U.S. Army to develop, integrate, manufacture, test, and deliver high-energy laser systems...Photonics Spectra October 2023 IssueShield AI, Sentient Vision Systems Combination Augments Defense SensingDefense technology company Shield AI has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Sentient Vision Systems.
