In New York state over the weekend, senior leaders from GE Healthcare and GE Global Research joined state and local leaders and officials from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) for the grand opening of GE Healthcare’s state-of-the-art digital mammography production facility at the Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush. The 230,000-sq-ft facility will add 150 high-paying manufacturing jobs in Rensselaer County with an annual payroll of $10 million. Investment in the facility totals more than $165 million, including a capital grant of $10 million from the state. With a focus on “clean technologies,” the building achieved USGBC LEED Gold Certification, making it one of only two semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the US to achieve this status. According to the company, the facility will enable the worldwide transfer of the digital flat panel x-ray technology that has been developed over the past 15 years at its research center in Niskayuna, N.Y.
