BARRINGTON, N.J., Aug. 11, 2023 — Edmund Optics established a 34,000-sq-ft laser optics center in Oldsmar, Fla. The center is dedicated to manufacturing optical components with high laser damage thresholds from the ultraviolet to the far infrared, and it expands Edmund’s laser optics manufacturing capabilities across laser crystal and glass fabrication, polishing, metrology, inspection, and testing. Approximately 50 employees work at the center. Edmund Optics opened a 34,000-sq-ft laser optics center dedicated to manufacturing a variety of optical components with high laser damage thresholds from the ultraviolet to...Read full article

    quantum dots
A quantum dot is a nanoscale semiconductor structure, typically composed of materials like cadmium selenide or indium arsenide, that exhibits unique quantum mechanical properties. These properties arise from the confinement of electrons within the dot, leading to discrete energy levels, or "quantization" of energy, similar to the behavior of individual atoms or molecules. Quantum dots have a size on the order of a few nanometers and can emit or absorb photons (light) with precise wavelengths,...
    additive manufacturing
Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, is a manufacturing process that involves creating three-dimensional objects by adding material layer by layer. This is in contrast to traditional manufacturing methods, which often involve subtracting or forming materials to achieve the desired shape. In additive manufacturing, a digital model of the object is created using computer-aided design (CAD) software, and this digital model is then sliced into thin cross-sectional layers. The...
