Heriot-Watt University spinout Edinburgh Instruments Ltd. has announced its 40th anniversary. Founded by chief scientific officer professor S. Desmond Smith, OBE Fellow of the Royal Society, in 1971, it was the first private company in Britain’s first University Research Park. The company recently restructured to focus on two clearly defined business areas, developing photonics and sensors divisions to help further accelerate international growth for in-demand products. Besides its range of photonic laser and spectroscopy instrumentation, the company’s R&D capabilities continue to innovate gas sensor products. Its Sensors Div. manufactures high-quality, reliable sensors and monitoring systems for gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and methane. For more information, visit: www.edinst.com
