RMD Inc., a contract research subsidiary of optical solution developer Dynasil Corp. of America, has received six grants totaling $3.8 million from NASA, the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Department of Energy (DOE). The funding will be used to develop advanced radiation detectors for NASA’s space exploration missions, biotechnology for NIH and radiation detection materials for DOE’s scientific research programs. "The research projects RMD is undertaking through these programs exemplify some of the world's most demanding medical and scientific research needs," said Kanai Shah, president of RMD. "These grants capitalize on our technical and scientific capability in the development of scintillation materials and instrumentation.” Dynasil develops and manufactures optics and photonics products, optical detection and analysis technology, and components for the homeland security, medical and industrial markets.
