PARSIPPANY, N.J., July 9 -- DRS Technologies, Inc. has been awarded a $3.3 million contract from the US Navy to develop a Multi-System Controller for testing and evaluating weapons release on board various fixed- and rotary-wing military aircraft and from ground-based launch systems. The award was given by the Naval Air Warfare Center's Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, Maryland. For this contract, DRS will redesign the Airborne Separation Video System (ASVS) -- produced by the company under earlier contracts -- for deployment in an AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range, Air-to-Air Missile pod. The pod will accommodate up to three ASVS cameras, the new Multi-System Controller and other equipment to capture images of weapons separation. This redesign will allow the ASVS to be used on any military test aircraft. The Multi-System Controller is scheduled to be used in ground-based applications as well, primarily at weapons test ranges.
