Corning, Lumen Strike Supply Agreement

Lumen Technologies has established an agreement with Corning Inc. for a substantial supply of next-generation optical cable, representing 10% of Corning’s global fiber capacity for each of the next two years. The fiber-dense cable is expected to more than double Lumen’s intercity fiber miles in the U.S., offering capacity for AI-related cloud data centers and high bandwidth applications. The agreement represents Lumen's largest cable purchase and will equip the networking solutions provider to meet the network infrastructure needs of major data center operators, including...Read full article

    Glossary
    optical fiber
Optical fiber is a thin, flexible, transparent strand or filament made of glass or plastic used for transmitting light signals over long distances with minimal loss of signal quality. It serves as a medium for conveying information in the form of light pulses, typically in the realm of telecommunications, networking, and data transmission. The core of an optical fiber is the central region through which light travels. It is surrounded by a cladding layer that has a lower refractive index than...
    artificial intelligence
The ability of a machine to perform certain complex functions normally associated with human intelligence, such as judgment, pattern recognition, understanding, learning, planning, and problem solving.
    bandwidth
The range of frequencies over which a particular instrument is designed to function within specified limits. See also fiber bandwidth.
