Cancer Imaging Expert Joins University of Houston

HOUSTON, Texas, June 3, 2014 — The University of Houston will use a $2 million recruitment grant from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas to hire Dr. David Mayerich, who will conduct quantum cascade laser (QCL) and knife-edge scanning microscopy research to improve cancer diagnostics. Badri Roysam, chairman of Houston’s electrical and computer engineering department, said Mayerich’s work will involve developing new methods for imaging clinical tissue biopsies and tumors in 3-D at fine resolution and massive scale.
