SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 27, 2010 – CVI Melles Griot is working at SPIE Photonics West on getting the word out, not only about its new products but also about products with which people may not be familiar. The company’s booth at the trade show is full of displays showing off various products, from optics to shutter products to informational displays on OCT and holography products. There’s even a laser marking demonstration at which visitors can have their names emblazoned on pens. “Nobody knows we sell a lot of products in this [laser marking] space,” said Lynore Abbott, marketing communications manager. The same...Read full article

    flow cytometry
Flow cytometry is a powerful technique used in biology and medicine for the quantitative analysis of the physical and chemical characteristics of cells and particles suspended in a fluid. The method allows for the rapid measurement of multiple parameters simultaneously on a cell-by-cell basis. It is widely used in various fields, including immunology, microbiology, hematology, and cancer research. Here are the key components and features of flow cytometry: Sample preparation: Cells or...
    holography
Holography is a technique used to capture and reconstruct three-dimensional images using the principles of interference and diffraction of light. Unlike conventional photography, which records only the intensity of light, holography records both the intensity and phase information of light waves scattered from an object. This allows the faithful reproduction of the object's three-dimensional structure, including its depth, shape, and texture. The process of holography typically involves the...
    laser marking
Laser marking is a process in which a laser beam is used to mark or engrave a surface by altering its properties or appearance. This technique is widely used for labeling, identification, and decoration of various materials, including metals, plastics, ceramics, glass, and more. Laser marking provides a permanent and high-precision method for adding information or graphics to a wide range of objects. Key features of laser marking include: Contactless process: Laser marking is a non-contact...
    metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
    ophthalmology
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine that focuses on the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the eyes and visual system. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of eye disorders and diseases. They are trained to provide comprehensive eye care, including medical, surgical, and optical interventions. Key areas within ophthalmology include: General eye care: Ophthalmologists perform routine eye examinations to assess visual acuity,...
