SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 5 -- Bookham Inc., a San Jose, Calif-based manufacturer of optical components, modules and subsystems for telecommunications, data communications, aerospace, industrial and military applications, announced it will unveil its optical technology at a Chinese conference this week. The Bookham wideband tunable laser and DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) SFP (small form pluggable) transceiver modules will be demonstrated live at the Bookham facility in Shenzhen between Sept. 6-9. The demonstration coincides with CIOE (China International Optoelectronic Exposition), at which Bookham is presenting a paper, "Enabling Low Cost Full Band Tunability Through High Yield Chip and Assembly Processes," detailing the company’s tunable laser strategy, chip design and assembly processes at its Shenzhen facility. Bookham obtained the facility in March 2004 through its acquisition of New Focus Inc. and began transferring product lines there, such as transmit-and-receive optical assemblies, erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, mini gain block and metro amplifiers, and fiber and connector sub assemblies; the facility now has more than 700 employees.
