Bausch + Lomb has announced that it will begin distributing Leica Microsystems’ ophthalmic surgical microscopes and accessories this month in select markets across the US, Europe, India and Latin America. The partnership expands Bausch + Lomb’s ophthalmic microscope portfolio, which includes intraocular lenses, equipment, instruments and procedure packs for cataract, refractive and retinal surgery. Under the agreement, which may be expanded over time, Bausch + Lomb will add to its offerings instruments such as the Leica M822 microscope, a device for cataract procedures that combines LED and halogen lighting for a stable red reflex, as well as high-end retinal systems. The collaboration will provide patients around the world with better access to imaging systems, said Leica President Eoghan O'Lionaird. “Our customers, their patients and our business will benefit from this collaboration as ophthalmic surgeons will have a single-source supplier for their equipment needs.” In January, Bausch + Lomb purchased ophthalmology laser company Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH of Munich.
