The Optical Society of America and the Materials Research Society are accepting applications for their congressional science and engineering fellowship for 1998-99. The congressional fellow spends one year working as a legislative assistant on the staff of a member of Congress or on a congressional committee. Activities include conducting legislative work, attending hearings and preparing briefs. The applicant is expected to be a member of one of the sponsoring societies. Candidates also must possess a doctorate and have a track record of success in research or scholarship in a field relevant to optical and/or materials science and technology.
