PARIS, Oct. 17 -- Alcatel said it has received a contract to provide equipment to Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom Co. Ltd. in a deal worth over $52 million. Alcatel will supply and install a million telephone lines to Chunghwa, the dominant carrier in Taiwan. Delivery is expected to begin in December, with service to start next May. The agreement also includes network signaling and switching equipment. Alcatel said it has gotten 60 percent of the switching products contracts awarded by Chunghwa dating back to 1973.
