PARIS, July 12 -- Dominion Telecom has chosen Alcatel the main supplier of Dominion's major North American fiber optic network. Alcatel did not reveal details of the contract, but said it would provide long-haul optical solutions, including DWDM systems and cables to Dominion, a subsidiary of utility holding group Dominion Resources. In March, Dominion Resources raised $516 million through a private investor venture and a debt offer to invest in building its fiber optics network. The company is expanding its network to more than 800,000 fiber miles (9,000 route miles) from its current 35,000 fiber miles (3,600 route miles).
