Record Attendance at Nanotech

BOSTON, May 8, 2006 -- Attendance at Nanotech 2006, being held this week at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, has exceeded 2900 and will exceed 3000 by tomorrow, mostly due to walk-in registrations, said the Nano Science and Technology Institute (NSTI), sponsor of the event, now in its ninth year. The number of exhibitors at the event also increased, to 200 -- more than 100 percent -- the NSTI said.

Matthew Laudon, director of the NSTI, said, "We have really expanded the scope of the conference with targeted vertical industry sessions that will focus on specific markets, such as nanotechnology in telecommunications, electronics and even cosmetics. We have already broken our record attendance from 2005.

"We expect many scientists, industrial professionals and financial attendees to come in from the local New England market to take advantage of the robust program we have," Laudon said. "This year, we also added the Clean & Controlled Environments conference as well as the Nano Job Fair, which are attracting new attendance."

NanoTech 2006 will feature more than 500 technology presentations and government program reviews, an IP showcase and industry symposia. Executives from Advance Nanotech Inc., a New York-based provider of financing for nanotechnology discoveries senior executive team, are among the presenters at the Nanotech 2006 Symposium. Advance Nanotech CEO Magnus Gittins this morning presented "Nanotechnology: Creating Real Value," focusing on the future of nanotechnology and the need for a new investment model to best meet the challenges and opportunities of the sector. Peter Gammel, senior vice president of electronics at Advance Nanotech, will deliver a presentation, "Securing the Homeland: Cheaper, Faster & Better"; and Michael Helmus, Advance Nanotech senior vice president, bio/pharma, will participate in presentations on investing in technology and on biomaterial. Brett Bader, CEO of UK-based Owlstone Nanotech, an Advance Nanotech subsidiary that has developed a chemical detection system, will speak about the future of that technology.
