TUCSON, Ariz., Sept. 19 -- Raytheon Co. announced that it has received a $125.9 million US Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided, Fire and Forget (TOW-F&F) Engineering and Manufacturing Development contract from the US Army. The 42-month contract will be completed at Raytheon's Missile Systems business unit in Tucson, Ariz. Raytheon is a Lexington, Mass.-based provider of products and services for commercial and defense electronics, as well as business and special mission aircraft
The TOW-F&F contract is designed to upgrade the Army's anti-tank weapon, the TOW missile, with the integration of an advanced focal plane array imaging infrared seeker. The seeker and software will provide automatic target tracking and the removal of the TOW wire and will decrease soldier casualties and increase system lethality. The TOW-F&F is designed to strike any target that the gunner can see, day or night, facing battlefield contaminants or countermeasures.
