LEXINGTON, Mass., Nov. 19 -- Raytheon Co. has received a letter of order valued at approximately $100 million from France's Ministry of Defense for an undisclosed number of Paveway II and Paveway III kits, as well as equipment, spares, and training support. The company's Paveway II kits will be employed in adapting MK-82 500-lb. and MK-83 1000-lb. warheads to full-up Paveway II laser-guided bombs. The Paveway III kits will allow BLU-109 penetrator warheads, MK-82 500-lb. and MK-84 2000-lb. warheads to be adapted into Paveway III laser-guided bombs.Raytheon expects the letter of order to be formalized later this month. Contract deliveries are scheduled to begin early next year, pending US export approval, and should conclude by October 2001. The equipment will be used by the French Air Force on its Mirage F1, Jaguar, and Mirage 2000 aircraft. It will also be deployed on the French Navy's Super Etendard aircraft, which will be carried aboard France's new Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier.
