Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, N.Y., has licensed its adaptive scanning optical microscope technology to Thorlabs Inc., a manufacturer of photonics products based in Newton, N.J. The company is positioned to bring the technology to market, making it accessible to researchers worldwide. The device automates tasks in biological laboratories, providing the ability to view large areas of a sample while maintaining high image resolution. The technology was invented at the Center for Automation Technologies and Systems at the institute, based in part on funding from the National Science Foundation.
