Photovoltaic (PV) modules manufacturer Prism Solar Technologies Inc. received a $5000 award for placing third out of 60 entries for the annual Clean Tech Business Plan Competition held in Anaheim, Calif. Sponsored by the Anaheim Center for New Energy Technologies (AC-NET) and the Clean Technology and Sustainable Industries Organization, it ran in conjunction with TechConnect World Conference and Expo. The company’s product, a holographic optical film, has the potential to transform the PV industry’s way of making solar modules. The inexpensive holographic optical film replaces much of the silicon required in a module, resulting in a yield of 20 to 40 percent more kilowatt hours per rated peak watt at about half the cost of conventional modules, according to the company. The AC-NET competition highlights emerging, early-stage companies with promising clean technologies, matching them with corporate partners and investors.
