A $340,500 grant has been awarded by the Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Commercialization Center to Plextronics Inc., both of Pittsburgh, for the continued commercial development of the latter’s Plexcore PV active layer technology for use in organic solar cells. The polymer-based semiconductive inks increase solar conversion efficiency and extend the device’s lifetime. The ability of Plextronics to control polymer design at the nanoscale enables the inks to be formulated with application-specific properties. Company representatives anticipate that the technology will affect multiple industries.
