PITTSFIELD, Mass., Jan. 26, 2015 — Biophotonic Imaging for MedicineResearchers in the field of bioimaging around the world are invited to give presentations at a digital conference to be hosted by Photonics Media this summer.

“Biophotonic Imaging for Medicine” will focus on a range of light-based imaging and microscopy techniques for diagnosing and assessing illness, or studying other attributes and functions of biological tissue in a biomedical context. It will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. EST on Thursday, June 11.

Like Photonics Media’s popular series of webinars, the conference will be presented free via the Web to a knowledgeable audience of researchers, medical professionals and engineers around the world.

Presentations will be selected by Photonics Media editorial staff and a panel of top researchers including professor Dr. Stephen Boppart of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and professor Dr. Aydogan Ozcan of the University of California, Los Angeles.

“Imaging in general, and biomedical imaging in specific, has been going through a true renaissance over the last couple of decades,” Ozcan said. “Enabled by new computational imaging theories, image reconstruction algorithms, biochemical assays, as well as significantly improved optical components and computing resources, we experience a major acceleration in our abilities to discover new science through biomedical imaging. It is truly a fascinating time for imaging science as a whole.”

Topics of interest for the digital conference include photoacoustics, adaptive optics, light-sheet microscopy, optical coherence tomography, spectroscopy for biomedical research and image-guided procedures.

“We invite anyone working in light-based bioimaging to consider giving a presentation on their work,” said Photonics Media Web Managing Editor James Lowe. “This digital conference is meant to be an illuminating look at a range of methods for gaining a better understanding of the body and improving human health through optics and photonics.”

Those interested in giving presentations are encouraged to submit abstracts online at photonics.com/bioconference by March 20. Abstracts can also be submitted via email to [email protected] or by mail to BioConference, Photonics Media, P.O. Box 4949, Pittsfield, MA 01202, U.S.A.
