PI Releases Actuators Brochure

AUBURN, Mass., July 20, 2010 — Piezoceramic actuator and precision motion-control equipment provider PI (Physik Instrumente) LP released a new brochure for its lever-amplified piezo flexure actuators.

The brochure features a variety of newly designed flexure actuators for OEMs and presents a host of new applications, including microfluidics, biotechnology, medical engineering, mechatronics, machining, adaptronics, laser technology and metrology.

While traditionally used in atomic force microscopy, nanotechnology and semiconductor applications, piezo actuators can do more than just nanometers, according to the company.

PI's PiezoMove actuators, combining flexure-guided motion with long travel ranges up to 1 mm, are compact, easy to integrate and require no maintenance. If nanometer precision is required, closed-loop versions are available.

The brochure can be ordered by mail or downloaded on the company’s site.

Glossary
actuator
An actuator is a mechanical or electromechanical device that is responsible for moving or controlling a mechanism or system. It converts various forms of energy (such as electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or thermal energy) into mechanical motion. Actuators are widely used in various industries and applications where precise control and movement are required. Functionality: Actuators are used to initiate or control motion by converting energy into mechanical force or displacement. They can...
metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
microfluidics
Microfluidics is a multidisciplinary field that involves the manipulation and control of very small fluid volumes, typically in the microliter (10-6 liters) to picoliter (10-12 liters) range, within channels or devices with dimensions on the microscale. It integrates principles from physics, chemistry, engineering, and biotechnology to design and fabricate systems that handle and analyze fluids at the micro level. Key features and aspects of microfluidics include: Miniaturization:...
nanometer
A unit of length in the metric system equal to 10-9 meters. It formerly was called a millimicron.
nanotechnology
The use of atoms, molecules and molecular-scale structures to enhance existing technology and develop new materials and devices. The goal of this technology is to manipulate atomic and molecular particles to create devices that are thousands of times smaller and faster than those of the current microtechnologies.
