The OptraSCAN on-demand digital pathology system from OptraScan Inc. has been chosen by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and the National Institutes of Health to provide a high-speed digital slide scanner that is fully equipped with confocal and widefield fluorescence imaging modalities that are integrated with image acquisition, image processing and quantitative image analysis software.

The OptraSCAN solution includes both brightfield and fluorescent imaging with a 10-laser line confocal imaging modality for acquiring up to 20-color fluorescence channels. The system incorporates a 300-slide autoloader that supports multiple sized slides and registration of serial sections for 3D reconstruction, along with slides for large specimen imaging. The scanner has the ability to scan a 1 cm3 specimen for 20 fluorophores.

“OptraSCAN has demonstrated a unique capability to provide a multitude of features in one scanner, suitable to accomplish the comprehensive requirements of the NINDS’ studies,” said Abhi Gholap, founder and CEO of OptraScan. “We are pleased to play a vital role in such a study to advance neurological health.”
