The world market for optical add/drop multiplexing reached $23 million in 1998, reflecting the initial stage of introduction and production, according to a report issued by ElectroniCast Corp. of San Mateo, Calif. The market is expected to expand from $1.64 billion in 2003 to $7.2 billion in 2008.
The firm predicts that North American fiber networks will account for 71 percent of the market in 2003. That share will drop to 64 percent of the market, or $4.61 billion, by 2008.
