Ocean Optics Buys Sandhouse Design

DUNEDIN, Fla., May 24, 2010 — Ocean Optics Inc. announced Thursday that it had acquired the assets of Sandhouse Design LLC, a manufacturer of modular mid-infrared spectrometers, LEDs, light sources and other photonic products.

Based in Dunedin as well, Sandhouse Design has developed over the past four years a novel line of high-power LED light sources for research and spectroscopy applications. Additionally, it offers small scanning infrared spectrometers in wavelengths from 900 to 8000 nm. Its products are suitable for biotechnology, process control and industrial applications.

The new product line will be manufactured by Ocean Optics at its Winter Park facility, and it will handle all sales and support via its regional sales offices in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Ocean Optics will support existing Sandhouse customers immediately.

With the addition of Sandhouse’s products, the Ocean Optics offerings will include close to 1700 spectrometers, sensors, light sources and accessories.

Ocean Optics is a supplier of solutions for optical sensing and modular spectroscopy.
