The Optical Society of America (OSA) has established its 90th student chapter -- during its 90th anniversary year -- at Australia National University (ANU) in Canberra, Australia. The chapter, formed in April, is led by Christian Romer Rosberg as president and Yuri Kivshar, an OSA Fellow, as faculty advisor. ANU has no dedicated school of optics and photonics but has five research schools in its Institute of Advanced Studies. Its students can study optics as part of the Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering. At present, 15 are enrolled in optics programs at ANU. OSA will recognize the new chapter at 90th anniversary festivities during its annual meeting, Frontiers in Optics, to be held Oct. 8-12 in Rochester, N.Y. OSA offers student chapters activity and travel grants, guest lecturer programs and networking opportunities, among other professional advancement resources. For more information visit: www.osa.org/studentcenter.
