Displaybank Co. Ltd. of Seoul, South Korea, has issued a series of studies on organic LED (OLED) fabrication, equipment, materials and market trends.

“OLED Fabrication Line Analysis” indicates that the market initially subsided in 2006, following an upturn in 2004 and 2005, but that another growth spurt is predicted. Shipments of passive-matrix OLEDs have increased, and manufacturers are scaling up for the mass production of active-matrix devices. The 120-page report details the active-matrix OLED production process and provides a product road map and a list of major patents.

Electrode and deposition/encapsulation processes and related materials are discussed in “OLED Equipment & Material Analysis.” This 120-page report discusses market leaders such as Tokki Corp. of Tokyo, which holds nearly 80 percent of the worldwide OLED deposition system market. The document includes industry planning strategies and lists of patents, and of suppliers of panels, equipment and materials.

The "OLED Market Trend and Forecast" report shows Taiwan leading in market share beginning in the fourth quarter of 2004 and continuing on a steady rise.

“OLED Market Trend and Forecast” identifies a shift in OLED manufacturing from South Korea to Taiwan that began in the fourth quarter of 2004. Analysts also note the rapid rise in OLED manufacturing in China. Chinese firms and research institutions are advancing the passive-matrix OLED industry, and businesses in Shanghai began active-matrix OLED research and development activities in cooperation with the government in the second half of 2005.

The 90-page study provides shipment and revenue figures by company and by region. It lists revenue by panel size, showing the dominance of the 1.1- to 1.4-in. panel through the third quarter of 2005. It also looks at the digital still camera market, which was expected to hit 81 million units in 2005 and is forecast to exceed 100 million units in 2010. In this market, 2.0- and 2.5-in. products are poised to see rapid growth beginning this year and continuing through 2010. In the amusement sector, which includes toys and small gaming devices, passive- and active-matrix OLEDs are predicted to show strong growth beginning in 2008.

The individual documents are available from Displaybank for $5000. The Fabrication Line and the Equipment & Material reports can be purchased as a package for $7500. For more information, contact Doo Kim, [email protected].
