The Naval Surface Warfare Center of Crane, Ind., has awarded a five-year contract valued at potentially more than $98 million to Northrop Grumman Corp. of Arlington, Va., a global defense and technology company. The latter will provide approximately 940 lightweight integrated designators and rangefinders that can locate and designate enemy targets for destruction using laser-guided ordnance. Known as Special Operations Forces Laser Acquisition Marker (SOFLAM) Special Operations Forces Laser Rangefinder Designators (SOFLRD), the devices also perform remote firing and are designed for mounting accessories such as pointers and night sights.
