(AMO) of Santa Ana, Calif., announced that a judge has upheld a May 2005 decision and awarded it $214 million in damages resulting from infringement of two AMO patents by Alcon Manufacturing Ltd. and Alcon Laboratories Inc. for phacoemulsification equipment used in cataract surgery. The judge granted AMO a permanent injunction, which was stayed pending appeal. The judge also required Alcon to post a $1.8 million bond on the injunction pending appeal.
