Evident Technologies Inc. of Troy, N.Y., a developer of advanced quantum dot nanomaterials with applications in life sciences, solid-state lighting, energy, security, telecommunications and nanotechnology markets, has added a sales executive, tripled its sales staff and expanded its global distribution network. Jeffrey Goronkin is the company's new vice president of sales. Prior to joining Evident, Goronkin was senior commercial manager for Proligo LLC prior to its acquisition by Sigma-Aldrich. Evident says it has six major product lines in development or on the market and recently released its new non-heavy metal quantum dot T2-MP EviTags, which can be used for cell microscopy, in vivo imaging, bio-threat detection and optoelectronic applications. . . . Andor Technology plc, a Belfast, Northern Ireland-based manufacturer of CCD and intensified-CCD camera systems for the global spectroscopy and scientific imaging markets, has appointed Peter John Smith to the company's board as a non-executive director, effective immediately. Smith is currently chairman and CEO of Nasmyth Group Ltd, a precision-machined component and equipment supplier. He is also chairman and managing director of Protech Global Technologies Ltd, a management consultancy. Andor's board now consists of five executive directors, two non-executive directors and an independent chairman. . . . Minneapolis-based Apogee Enterprises Inc., a maker of glass products and services for the architectural, large-scale optical and automotive industries, has named James S. Porter, vice president of strategy and planning, as its chief financial officer (CFO). He has been interim CFO since July and with the company since 1997.
