Kodak said today it has agreed to sell its assets used to produce precision glass molded aspheres, spherical lenses and lens assemblies to Rochester Precision Optics LLC (RPO), a startup company based in Rochester, N.Y. RPO said it will provide precision molded and machined optics to companies who require quick-turn production solutions, and that it will have the capacity to produce all of the catalogue lenses and lens cell assemblies previously made by Kodak. Production is expected to begin by January.    . . .    Photonic Products Group Inc. of Northvale, N.J., announced that its MRC Optics subsidiary was awarded a contract from Lockheed Martin's Electronics and Missiles Control Div. in Orlando, Fla., for their Lot II production of the Arrowhead electro-optical system, the advanced electro-optical fire control system that AH-64 Apache helicopter pilots will use for safe flight in day, night, or bad weather missions. This is the third consecutive award to MRC Optics for Arrowhead since 2002 and covers deliveries through October 2006. The dollar value of the contract was not disclosed.    . . .    Alfalight Inc., a Madison, Wis.-based maker of high-power diode lasers, has named Rajesh Nair as vice president of operations. Prior to joining Alfalight, Nair was executive director of wafer fabrication at Maxim Integrated Products, where he led the manufacturing and module development of mixed-signal devices.    . . .    Optical Metrology Innovations of Cork, Ireland, a manufacturer of photoreflectance spectrometers for front-end silicon metrology and advanced semiconductor packaging, has appointed Robert Eckelmann to its board of directors. Eckelmann worked for Intel from 1988 to 2002, most recently as vice president and general manager of Intel EMEA.    . . . Metallic nanopowders manufacturer QuantumSphere Inc. announced it opened a new manufacturing facility and relocated the firm’s national headquarters to Santa Ana, Calif., from its former location in Costa Mesa, approximately eight miles away. QuantumSphere's nanopowders have applications in aerospace, defense, energy and other markets. The address for QuantumSphere's new manufacturing facility and corporate headquarters is 2905 Tech Center Dr., Santa Ana, CA 92705.

Glossary
metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
photoreflectance
A noncontact form of electromodulation in which modulation of the electric field is caused by photo-excited electron-hole pairs from a pump source.
