Nanopositioning systems supplier PI (Physik Instrumente) of Auburn, Mass., has issued its 2005-06 hard-bound catalog, “The World of Nanopositioning and Micropositioning,” a reference book on the fundamentals of nanopositioning and micropositioning technology. The 500-page publication presents PI’s products and technologies, including nanometrology sensor systems, PiezoWalk linear motors, high-speed scanning mirrors, piezo drivers and photonics alignment solutions. The catalog includes reference material, drawings, specifications, options and ordering information for all PI nanopositioning products and related accessories. For more information, visit: www.pi.ws    . . .    Chicago-based technology company TZ Limited has named Bernard Perrine as CEO of its subsidiary, Telezygology Inc. (TZ Inc.), the inventor of intelligent fastening technology. Perrine succeeds Chris Kelliher, who was recently promoted to oversee the TZ Limited group of companies as TZ Group CEO. Most recently, Perrine served as marketing general manager for the Mobile and Embedded Devices Div. at Microsoft Corp. Before Microsoft, Perrine was a vice president at Eastman Kodak, responsible for their global retail photofinishing business.    . . .    The Optical Industry Development Association (OIDA), an optoelectronics industry support association based in Washington, DC, has issued a report summarizing the results of its Fiber Optic Sensors Workshop, held in March 2005. The report, available to all OIDA members, includes OIDA's fiber optic sensor roadmap along with analysis of the optoelectronic (OE) sensor market. The purpose of the workshop was to reach industry consensus on OE sensor technologies, competition and potential markets for OE sensors, barriers to overcome and OIDA's role in enhancing industry profitability. Glossary
metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
nanopositioning
Nanopositioning refers to the precise and controlled movement or manipulation of objects or components at the nanometer scale. This technology enables the positioning of objects with extremely high accuracy and resolution, typically in the range of nanometers or even sub-nanometer levels. Nanopositioning systems are employed in various scientific, industrial, and research applications where ultra-precise positioning is required. Key features and aspects of nanopositioning include: Small...
optoelectronic
Pertaining to a device that responds to optical power, emits or modifies optical radiation, or utilizes optical radiation for its internal operation. Any device that functions as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical transducer. Electro-optic often is used erroneously as a synonym.
sensor
1. A generic term for detector. 2. A complete optical/mechanical/electronic system that contains some form of radiation detector.
