PerkinElmer Inc., a Boston-based maker of technology for the health sciences and photonics industries, has named Robert F. Friel as its vice chairman and Jeffrey D. Capello as senior vice president and CFO, effective Jan. 1. Friel, who most recently served as the company's executive vice president and CFO, will also join PerkinElmer's board of directors. Capello has been the company's vice president of finance since 2001.    . . .    Daniel Mayleben will join Apogee Enterprises Inc. of Minneapolis, a manufacturer of glass products and services for the architectural, large-scale optical and automotive industries, as chief information officer (CIO), effective Oct. 31. Since 2003, Mayleben has been CFO for HighJump Software, a maker of supply chain execution software.    . . .    ESI Inc., a provider of laser systems for microengineering applications with headquarters in Portland, Ore., today announced that J. Michael Dodson has resigned as senior vice president of administration and CFO, effective Dec. 7. The company says Dodson will be returning to the Phoenix area to pursue a CFO position with a pre-IPO company outside the semiconductor industry.
