BOSTON, Sept. 29 -- New markets in photonics will be the focus of the "Future of Light," the Boston University Photonics Center's ninth annual executive symposium, to be held Nov. 10 at the center, 8 Saint Mary’s St., Boston.

The symposium will feature analyses of the industry's economic climate and a global view of how it will evolve over the next five to 10 years. Attendees will include industry executives, technical laboratories, government organizations, venture capital firms and foreign government representatives.

Among this year's presenters will be executives from Adams Harkness Inc., the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association, the National Research Council of Canada, Raytheon Co., Newport Corp., JDS Uniphase, Cree Corp. and Color Kinetics Inc. Topics will include solid-state lighting, energy conservation, national defense and telecommunications.

Don Fraser, director of the Photonics Center, said, "This conference is an especially important platform for investors, business leaders and entrepreneurs who have an interest in new areas of photonics, emerging markets, national security and how they relate to the global economy. The symposium continues to be an important forum for investors to gain insight into emerging technologies and new market opportunities."
