ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 25, 2016 — Navitar Inc., a manufacturer of precision optics and imaging system components, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Hyperion Development LLC, a design firm and manufacturer of custom optical assemblies and OEM solutions.

The deal is expected to close by the end of the first quarter, with operation out of four engineering, design and production facilities in San Ramon, Calif., Woburn, Mass., Denville, N.J., and Rochester, N.Y.

“We are very excited to welcome everyone at Hyperion Development into the Navitar family,” said Jeremy and Julian Goldstein, owners of Navitar. “This transaction brings together two industry leaders and creates an optical design powerhouse.”

Hyperion expanded in 2014 with the acquisition of AMF Optics Inc. and American Diamond Turning LLC.

Between the two companies, sales have been made in over 45 countries around the world.

“The combined capabilities of Navitar and Hyperion Development just don’t exist at other optical firms around the world,” said Jeremy Goldstein. “Our unique abilities will continue to help our customers maintain their competitive position and help to strengthen their market leadership.”

Hyperion Development is a provider of optical technology such as deep- and extreme-ultraviolet imaging systems for lithographic printing and semiconductor process metrology. Navitar designs, develops and manufactures precision optical and electro-optical solutions for the biotechnology, medical, defense, security, industrial imaging, and projection optics industries.

lithography
Lithography is a key process used in microfabrication and semiconductor manufacturing to create intricate patterns on the surface of substrates, typically silicon wafers. It involves the transfer of a desired pattern onto a photosensitive material called a resist, which is coated onto the substrate. The resist is then selectively exposed to light or other radiation using a mask or reticle that contains the pattern of interest. The lithography process can be broadly categorized into several...
metrology
Metrology is the science and practice of measurement. It encompasses the theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, including the development of measurement standards, techniques, and instruments, as well as the application of measurement principles in various fields. The primary objectives of metrology are to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in measurements and to establish traceability to recognized standards. Metrology plays a crucial role in science, industry,...
